Primary Care for Women

Helping women on their journey toward better health

To make the most out of life, it’s important to stay healthy. That’s why our physicians offer personal care and support at every stage of life – from adolescence and young adulthood to motherhood, menopause and beyond.

When is it helpful to begin seeing an OB/GYN?

Staying healthy includes having a relationship with a gynecologist (GYN) or obstetrician/gynecologist (OB/GYN) who knows the special needs of women. It is recommended girls have their first gynecologic visit between the ages of 13 and 15 and to continue this relationship throughout adulthood.

Your OB/GYN will play a big role in caring for your overall health, in addition to caring for you during pregnancy. Your OB/GYN may recommend certain tests to assess your baseline health. Screening tests are designed to detect hidden disease in otherwise healthy people. These screenings may include:

  • Bone density
  • Breast cancer
  • Cervical cancer
  • Colorectal cancer
  • Diabetes screening
  • Sexually transmitted infections

How to choose the right doctor

Choosing your doctor is an important decision. Make sure to weigh your options and choose the provider who’s right for you. Here are some questions to consider asking when choosing an OB/GYN.

  • Does the provider accept my health insurance?
  • Is the office location convenient to my work or home?
  • Are the office hours convenient for me?
  • What is the provider’s philosophy of care?
  • Where does the provider deliver babies and perform procedures?
