Community Health Needs Assessment
Prisma Health conducts a community health needs assessment (CHNA) every three years. This work allows us to better understand the healthcare needs of Midlands and Upstate South Carolina residents, so that we may better respond to them.
What is a CHNA?
Community health needs assessments are designed to help improve the overall health and wellness of communities by identifying the community needs and use of local health resources, and the actions needed to address healthcare delivery in a defined area.
This assessment, required with the passage of the Affordable Care Act, includes interviews with state and local elected officials, major employers, community members and community organizations that provide health services. Additionally, surveys are conducted through prepaid mailings, door-to-door distribution, online and at local organizations/agencies and community events.
