Prisma Health Breast Health Center in Sumter receives ACR accreditation renewal
GREENVILLE, S.C.—Prisma Health Breast Health Center in Sumter has been awarded two, three-year terms of renewed accreditation, one in breast ultrasound and one in stereotactic breast biopsy, as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The accreditations for these modalities help the center maintain its status as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence.
The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report that can be used for continuous practice improvement.
Terry Jett, mammography manager for the Center, said, “Accreditation ensures the Breast Center is constantly working to achieve the highest quality of care and improve outcomes for all patients, rather than just meeting the normal standards. It is a team effort that we take very seriously. Our department is very proud to be a part of saving lives and will continue to strive to be the very best.” As a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, the Breast Health Center in Sumter is fully accredited by the ACR for having achieved high standards in quality, staff and advanced technology.
The program, which is administered by ACR, ensures patients will have access to:
- An interdisciplinary team approach to coordinate best treatment options.
- Breast cancer conferences.
- Information about ongoing clinical trials.
- Quality breast care close to home.
