Inpatient Therapy

Several therapies are provided by our inpatient therapy team, including:

  • Occupational therapy
  • Physical therapy
  • Speech therapy
  • Recreational therapy

Occupational therapy

Occupational therapy services provide evaluation and treatment to improve patients’ functional skills, increase self-sufficiency, and improve the quality of life. Specific services include the following:

  • Assessing the performance of self-care tasks and advanced activities of daily living such as cooking, child care, and money management
  • Provision of adaptive equipment
  • Rehabilitation of upper extremities/hand injuries
  • Fabrication of splints or casts to increase mobility and prevent joint contractures
  • Enhancing memory, attention span, problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Addressing visual-perceptual deficits through compensatory strategies
  • Therapeutic activities to increase strength, range of motion and motor control
  • Technologies and modalities such as electrical stimulation and Vision Coach
  • Assessing low vision and visual perceptual skills that impact activities of daily living
  • Driver Rehabilitation Program

Physical therapy

Physical therapy services include the evaluation and treatment of patients requiring neurological or musculoskeletal rehabilitation or wound care. Specific services include the following:

  • Therapeutic exercises to regain mobility, strength and balance
  • Mobility training to gain independence with walking or maneuvering a wheelchair
  • Treatment of neck and back pain
  • The use of specialized manual techniques to improve tissue function, which could include soft tissue mobilization, functional orthopedic approach, muscle energy, strain/counter strain, and joint mobilizations
  • Technologies and modalities such as electrical stimulation, iontophoresis, ultrasound and MotoMed
  • Wheelchair evaluation/assessment to provide patients with access to vendors and therapists for wheelchair seating and positioning needs, often including the use of Pressure Mapping System
  • Lymphedema management

Speech therapy

Our speech-language pathologists offer a comprehensive scope of services including assessment and treatment for patients with communication, cognitive or swallowing difficulties to make a functional difference in their daily lives. Services include:

  • Videofluoroscopic swallowing evaluations and treatment for difficulty swallowing
  • Evaluation and treatment of speech-language and cognitive impairments related to stroke and other neurological conditions
  • Rehabilitation for people with a tracheostomy
  • Augmentative alternative communication assessments
  • Addressing motor speech disorders such as verbal apraxia and dysarthria
  • Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation for the treatment of swallowing disorders
  • Patient and caregiver education and training, which is an important component of treatment sessions
