Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital Acute Rehabilitation
At Prisma Health, medical rehabilitation is an extension and support of acute care. Often, rehab can determine future quality of life, vocational and recreational opportunities, while deterring secondary medical complications.
Opportunity and hope for restoring independence
We aim to take recovery to its ultimate level by giving individuals who are experiencing catastrophic illness or injury both opportunity and hope for restoring their functional independence.
Our treatment team
Through the efforts of an interdisciplinary team of rehabilitation professionals, patients are taught the necessary skills to care for themselves and return to a normal and viable lifestyle. The treatment team may include a physician, rehab nurses, physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist, social worker, the patients and their family members.
Individualized treatment programs
Because each person’s needs are unique, individualized treatment programs are developed based on the patient’s physical limitations, abilities and goals for recovery. Treatment may address areas related to mobility and strength, performance of activities of daily living, communication skills and swallowing function. The ARU serves patients recovering from a variety of medical issues, including: stroke, amputations, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, closed head injuries, multiple trauma, spinal cord injuries, hip fractures and hip and knee replacements.
