One-month experiences (one rotation from each category, required)

  • Internal medicine
    • Neurology
    • Oncology
    • Critical care step-down
  • Critical care
    • Medical intensive care unit
    • Neuroscience intensive care unit
    • Coronary care unit
  • Ambulatory care
    • Family medicine
    • Internal medicine
    • Ambulatory care, Prisma Health physician practices

One-month experiences (elective)

  • Academia
  • Emergency medicine
  • Cardiology/transitions of care
  • Infectious disease consult
  • Surgery, non-rounding
  • Repeat any rotation above, as scheduling allows

Longitudinal experiences (required)

  • Leadership and practice management.
  • Weekend central staffing rotation.
  • Participation in clinical on-call program.
  • University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy Clinical Teaching Certificate (at discretion of RPD if teaching certificate completed during PGY1).
  • Complete one medication utilization evaluation project with departmental impact to be presented at a professional meeting.
  • Complete one major research project with departmental impact to be presented at the Southeastern Residency Conference (SERC).

Other requirements

  • Provide a minimum of one Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)-accredited continuing education program to the department.
  • Provide two case conference presentations to the department.
  • Prepare a manuscript worthy of submission to a peer-reviewed journal.
  • Actively participate on formulary management teams.
  • Co-precept pharmacy students and/or PGY-1 residents.
  • Provide in-service programs to pharmacists, nurses, medical residents, etc.
