PGY1 Pharmacy Residency (Outpatient Focused)
Prisma Health Richland Hospital – University of South Carolina
Residents in our ASHP-accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency 37013 (outpatient) at Prisma Health Richland Hospital focus on growth as a practitioner in outpatient and transitions of care settings.
Focused on practitioner growth
As part of Prisma Health’s ongoing pursuit of excellence, our primary care practices are accredited by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) as Patient-Centered Medical Homes and our residents will spend dedicated time in these practice settings. Our residency program is accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).
Residents rotate through a number of different practice sites, such as our internal medicine and heart failure clinics, as well as gain experience in transitions of care, adult medicine and indigent care. Through the Prisma Health preceptor network, we have many elective opportunities available that allow residents to tailor their year to their interests.
Service for residents will take place at the outpatient pharmacy, which serves as a community pharmacy for the health system. In addition to filling prescriptions for team members, the pharmacy provides distributive and consultative services for Prisma Health outpatient clinics and hospital discharge patients.
PGY1 program purpose: Postgraduate year one (PGY1) pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and outcomes to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists responsible for medication-related care of patients with a wide range of conditions, eligible for board certification and eligible for postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training.
