Industry Relationships

Industry Relationships: Prisma Health physicians, scientists, and other professionals may collaborate with the pharmaceutical or medical device industries to help develop medical and scientific breakthroughs or provide medical expertise or education. While doing so, Prisma Health strives to adhere to our Purpose Statement of: Inspire Health, Serve with Compassion, and Be the Difference, as we lead toward advancing medicine that will benefit patient care and support our communities within South Carolina and beyond. As “Thought Leaders” and experts in their fields, Prisma Health physicians and other providers are often sought after by industry to consult, provide expertise and education, and otherwise share their specialized knowledge. Prisma Health assists our physicians, scientists, and other professionals in collaboration with industry in order for our work to benefit our patients and public at large. At times our work, whether it be through investigation, research, education or other means in the normal course of business may be commercialized in partnership with industry.

To avoid any real or perceived conflict of interest and to assure professional and commercial integrity in matters as described, Prisma Health, thorough the Offices of Compliance Services and the Office of Research Compliance Administration, maintains and adheres to a program that reviews disclosed financial relationships and, when appropriate, puts measures in place to manage, mitigate, or eliminate potential conflicts of interest. Prisma Health publicly discloses the names of companies when (i) its physicians and other professionals receive $5,000 or more per year (or, in some cases, equity or stock options) for speaking and consulting, (ii) serve within a fiduciary role (Director, Trustee), (iii) receive or have the right to receive honorariums (iv) and/or hold any equity interest for their role as inventor, discoverer, developer, founder or consultant. In doing so, Prisma Health will provide information as accurately as possible about its physicians, scientists, and other professionals, connections with industry.

Public Health Service-Reportable Financial Conflicts of Interest: Interactions with industry are essential to our work as scientists and researchers, but can present the potential for conflicts of interest related to such activities. Where Prisma Health has identified a Public Health Service (PHS)-Reportable Financial Conflict of Interest, communication and agreement takes place in the form of oversight and measures are placed to ensure that, to the extent possible, the design, conduct and reporting of the research is free from bias.
